What is Information Design?
Information Design can be a good thing and a lot of times confusing.
A pie chart can show simple division, percentages and give the user immediate answers. This is an extremely commonly used to show information.
Bad Information Design-
Now if I lived here I would know where I was going. Since I don’t I would probably be going around in circles. As you can see this is a confusing intersection. Now if there was a north, south, east or west, you might know where you’re supposed to go. Or instead of AV they could have put street or road.
Now this NYC street sign is more than confusing. No standing from 7-10am, 10a-7p no standing except trucks, allowed to park at night? Who really knows? My guess is don’t park here ever.

I love the background you selected for your blog – bright cheerful vibrant colors! I also like the way the background (or boxes) scroll – it’s a really nice touch! If it’s possible (I haven’t figured out how to do this myself!), I would suggest that you increase the size of the font for the paragraph data – it was a little difficult for me to read without work.
ReplyDeleteI applaud you for including examples in your first post – I’m not sure I would have attempted that myself. The examples you chose for “bad” information design made me chuckle – I live near New York City – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stood on the sidewalk trying to figure out it I would get a ticket for leaving my car where I parked it!
I like the examples that you used. They show the point you are trying to make. I also like the background, it is fun, whimsy, and it has the right amount of "pop" to get a reader interested in what you have to say. Only suggestion I see is to make this middle column a little bigger, so that you can increase the font some to make it a little easier to read
